Nugget Finder XP Coil
May 2007
Due to the areas I prospect in I am forced to use the DD format in coils.Â
I had been using Coiltek coils until the Nugget Finder XP coils came to the front.Â
One of the greatest uses for this coil, though at a loss of depth - I still dont know how much yet
is around powerlines. I am using both the GP3500 and the GPX4000.Â
Through trials I have found using the coil in XP mode and running either detector including the GP3000
in mono mode I negate the effect of the power line interference. Now with the advent of the GPX4000
and the sensitive mode doing it thing with mono settings and smooth timings, I have been running the
GPX4000 in Smooth- Sensitive - Mono and the coil switched to XP and I have been pulling nuggets up to
14 grams at 350mm beneath high voltage lines.
New years Eve 2006/2007 I was restless looking for something to do and decided to go check an area that
had been kind to me. My mother "Jessie" up for the Chrissy break, asked if she could come and watch as
she had seen the gold I had found but didn't know how and what I did. Well this leads to the following
learning curve.
One of the things I have noticed is the barrier or should I say limits between coils.Â
I'll try and explain what I mean. At Christmas I walked away from something that didn't raise the threshold
or lower it but there was a null break in it. The area I have been working is about 1.5 m wide and about
15 m long and I have swung every coil I have over the area and from each direction. I never got any indication
of any more nuggets/targets. I have been doing this area for months and basically given it up as been done out.Â
I ended up in there again with the same coil that gave me the null effect and I remembered it happened before,Â
I dont know why I scraped a couple inches off as I did, checking and there was that definite increase in threshold
signaling a target.
Well that dig started in earnest as it was in the slate/shale rock.Â
I was ready to call the ambulance, my ticker was getting over worked from the effort needed to dig and not
the excitement. Given about 45 minites and a swing over the rock removed the sucker was out.Â
Looking at the pile of rock and dirt I could see the golden twinkle, and that really got the ticker going.Â
Stepping back I said to my Mother it's on the heap. Mum asking where as I sat "on top" I replied then she
developed the shakes as she picked up the nugget.
So there it goes. If you have got a particular spot that has been kind to you, use all your coils because
there maybe only one particular coil that can detect that particular sized nugget at that particular depth
and the others can not.
I will put this nugget up for sale with a note indicating it and hand half over to my mum. 50/50 split.
I gotta get out there and get hard at it.
